1. Install the File Server Resource Monitor Role, if not already installed.
2. Configure the email server to allow the server in question to relay emails.

* In an environment with multiple Hub Transport servers make sure you enable this on all HT servers

3. Configure SMTP settings

* Open the FSRM console and right-click on the top resource “File Server Resource Manager (local)” and select “Configure Options”
* Fill in the appropriate fields and click Send Test E-mail. If the test email is not received, troubleshoot this before moving forward. The server event log would be a good place to start.

4. Create a Quota Template

* In the FSRM console right click Quota Templates and select Create Quota Template.
* Type in the Template Name and Description (optional)
* Set the Space Limit to the desired size
* Select Hard Quota (enforced) or Soft Quota (notification only)
* In the Notification Thresholds section click Add to enable notifications
* Select the desired notification options
* Percentage
* Notify Administrators (specified in step 2)
* Notify User

* Repeat these steps for additional notifications
* Click OK when done

5. Create a Quota

* In the FSRM console right-click Quotas and select New Quota
* Select the path where you want the quota to be applied. To apply the quota for users folders, select C:\Users
* Select “Auto apply template…” to apply the template to existing folders
* Select the Quota Template created in the previous step. Confirm the settings are correct then click Create

6. In the FSRM console, click Refresh to update quota usage information. All done!
